Instagram 2026: Why Authenticity and Content Quality Matter More Than Ever

In 2025, Instagram established itself as a platform focused not just on engagement, but on building a genuine community.

Based on Metricool's social media analysis report, several key insights emerge to define additional trends for 2026.

The first trend highlights a communication strategy centred on quality rather than posting frequency.

The "post more to get more" mindset is no longer effective; in 2026, it is all about "posting better content", both in terms of visual aesthetics and the core message being shared.

The second trend concerns the role of static posts versus videos.

While video is currently the leading format for engagement (comments, likes, shares, and saves), the post format is what significantly boosts views.

This is because the Instagram algorithm favours posts, often displaying them more than once, whereas a video - much like on TikTok - typically has only one chance to immediately grab the user's attention before they lose interest.

The third trend focuses specifically on the type of post being published.

Data shows that the carousel, despite being the least-used format in 2025; performs much better than single images, garnering more impressions, higher reach, and 3x more interactions.

Consequently, a major 2026 trend involves using many images in a single carousel (now up to a maximum of 20).

These do not necessarily need to follow a strict narrative logic; the priority is that they are authentic and of high quality.

These trends define 2026 as a year of authenticity and quality, where the concept of "community" serves as the foundation for any successful Instagram strategy.
